Contact lenses- Red eyes?

So about a week or two ago a very red vein appeared from the corner of my eye to the cornea. Throughout the day it seems to get better, however the morning and the night it seems to get worse. It is red all around the eye and it is slightly irritated. I wear contact lenses- could this have something to do with it?
