What is the function of the clipboard on Microsoft Word?

the function of the clipboard is to keep track of everthing you cut or copy so you can go back to it and not loss it say if you copy to seprate things you can go to the clipboard and retrive the first thing you copy cause the second one will still be with the mouse cursor
