Should I get my Masters?

I make less than a TA stipend makes now. I know someone who is considering giving up his current job and doing the TA position. He figures that you can live on it with a fair amount of comfort. Go for the masters. Think of it this way if you had a real salary you would have to pay for the masters yourself and that would leave you with less money. Yes you will need a masters to do much in a university you might need a phd if you don't want to just teach in a community college. Also to teach you need to have a degree in what you will teach or related at some schools.
