How to hit better in mlb 2k10?

Every time i play the game I can't hit no matter what I do or what difficulty its on I'm ether way early on the pitch or way late. but when ever my friends play they hit fine. what am i doing wrong? Even when i do finally hit the ball it always goes to a player and never gets out of the infield. I feel like they made the batting to hard. please tell what to do to finally hit.
